Services

The services I provide at Goldsmith Consulting include not only straightforward consultancy but also organisational, team and individual assessment, speaking, training, workshop facilitation, and leadership and team coaching. My primary focus is to support business leaders who want their organisation to be distinctive.

A distinctive organisation is one that is fully alive and performs brilliantly. It’s an organisation that its people enjoy and are proud to work for. Its clients recognise that they get much more than just excellent products and good service from their association with it. It is an exemplary corporate citizen, caring for its community and seeing the benefit of going the extra mile on its behalf. It is an organisation that reaps the rewards from strong collaborations with its partners and other stakeholders. Collaborative by nature, it still knows absolutely how to get the job done. It’s smart. No acronym, just bright, sharp, flexible and able.

I know of few business leaders who don’t have an ambition to get somewhere close to this. The problem is making it happen. Typically, we get caught up in the urgent, and don’t give enough of our time to doing what matters most to secure the future of our enterprises.

Extraordinary pressures are placed on business leaders and senior managers to conform to perceived norms. Thar be dragons! In the name of not taking risks, business leaders take the biggest risk of all. It can be virtually impossible to stand out against the pressure, but what you're resisting is mediocrity - the art of the beige.

We consultants don’t help. We throw one fashionable concept after another at your heads, and make you feel bad because, darlings, the ideas you are working with are so last season. And then, when you succumb to our siren call, to the magic potion we seem to be peddling, we arrive in batallions, browbeating you about all the things you should be doing. What we deliver, by and large, is a one size fits all service, which somehow doesn't fit you.

It would help enormously if you had the opportunity to think things through yourselves. After all, you are the experts in your own business. It is often difficult, though, to see the wood for the trees, to get a perspective on what's really happening and why. It doesn't help that as a business leader you get very little head space – time and opportunity to explore the challenges you face, and to try out thoughts and ideas. You're not on your own. An organisation led by a strong, coherent team will almost always flourish. Yet you get very little time to build that team.

These issues are explored further elsewhere on this site. To check if it's really you I'm talking to, have a look at About you. For more on creating a distinctive organisation, and the shifts in thinking that make it possible, go to Think.
